Karakalpakstan and Khorezm at a New Speed: Mobiuz Continues Network Modernization

Mobile operator Mobiuz has commissioned more than 130 new 4G LTE base stations and boosted internet speeds across Uzbekistan's western regions.

In 2025, Mobiuz was named the leader in mobile internet speed and network stability in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region —  the result of a large-scale technical upgrade across both regions.

The company is carrying that investment into 2026. In the first half of the year, Mobiuz brought more than 130 new 4G LTE base stations online in the cities and districts of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm.

Throughput Up by 50%

A central part of the work has been radio-frequency refarming. Operators around the world are phasing out the ageing GSM (2G) standard to free up spectrum for newer technologies, and Mobiuz is moving in step with them. This year, across western Uzbekistan, the 1800 MHz band that once carried GSM has been reallocated to 4G LTE.

The effect is already tangible. Throughput on the 1800 MHz band alone has risen 42% in the Khorezm region and 50% in Karakalpakstan. At the same time, the load on radio resources has dropped while the volume of traffic carried has held steady. Subscribers now get significantly higher speeds on the very same frequency as before.

The company has also focused on power resilience. More than 90 new backup batteries have been installed across the two regions, with over 20 additional units at existing hub base stations — keeping the network running through power outages, even ones lasting several hours.

Internet Use Is Climbing

With the upgrades in place and Mobiuz plans offering more, subscribers are using more mobile data. Compared with the end of last year, consumption has grown 17% in Karakalpakstan and 10% in the Khorezm region.

In practice, subscribers in both regions are already moving noticeably more data than six months ago — streaming and downloading more video, making more video calls, and getting more out of online services. The network is absorbing that extra load with no loss in quality.
